The faucetless undercounter water filter connects directly to the cold water supply of the kitchen faucet. This practically means that every time the kitchen faucet is turned on in the cold, the water that will run will be filtered.
This has several advantages such as:
- We don't drill a hole in the kitchen counter to install an extra faucet just for filtered water
- We don't need that much space in the kitchen cupboard. (Regarding the undercounter faucet filter that will need to be piped to the faucet).
- Installation is easier, even by people who don't have that much experience with tools etc.
Its main disadvantages compared to the undercounter faucet filter are:
- We constantly spend the potion. Do not forget that every time the faucet is turned on in the cold, the filter comes into operation. This means we use the filter even to wash the dishes at home.
- The replacement filter will certainly not last 6 to 9 months (as it happens in the other case), and this is because, as we said, we use the filter all the time. The filter in this case lasts a minimum of 6 months depending on consumption and the number of people using it.
- It is not recommended to put a filter smaller than 5 micron. A micron equals one thousandth of a millimeter. In most cases we use filters with this permeability. But because the water in these filters runs fast (from a half-inch spiral), if we put in a narrower filter, there is a risk that it will start to clog and reduce the water flow of the faucet. Another disadvantage if we put a narrower filter is that the water makes "corridors" around the replacement filter, that is, it tries to pass where it finds the least resistance. This practically means that it "overflows" the 0,5 µm holes and makes them 5 or even 10 microns, with the result that not all of the carbon filter works but part of it.
The advantages of the filter with an independent tap are:
- We only use the activated carbon filter when we need it. It is up to us how we use it. We can choose whether to wash the fruits and vegetables with the filter or not. And we certainly don't wash the dishes with filtered water.
- The replacement solid activated carbon filter will last for more than 6 months.
- The quality of filtered water is better because the water passes through the filter more slowly. This is because the filter tube is 1/4 inch in diameter, while if you connect a filter without a faucet, the connection is made with a half inch (1/2) spiral, so the water passes through faster and does not have time to filter as well .
- You can put a narrower filter according to your needs. Because the water flows more slowly than in the other case, you can fit even the narrowest filters without any problems at all. If, for example, lead is detected in your area, then very easily you can put a filter with a permeability of 0,5 microns, special for heavy metals, without a problem. You can't do the same with the other case, as the water runs faster through the half-inch coils, causing it to "overflow" the replacement carbon filter.
Disadvantages of the faucet filter are:
- A bit of 1/4 inch tubing is needed to connect the filter to the faucet, which means the kitchen cabinet will "look fuller".
